Yiruma

Yiruma is a South Korean pianist and composer whose music has found a wide audience beyond classical circles. He started playing piano at age five, and his mother, a classical pianist, was his first teacher. His 2001 debut album 'Love Scene' gained attention in South Korea, but it was the 2002 piece 'River Flows in You' that became his most recognizable work.

That song, along with others like 'Kiss the Rain', has a simple, melodic quality that feels both contemporary and rooted in classical piano tradition. His compositions often draw from classical influences while maintaining an accessible, atmospheric sound that has been used in various films and television shows.

In 2007, Yiruma faced plagiarism allegations regarding 'Kiss the Rain', though these were eventually dismissed. He has continued to release albums, including 'Stay in Touch' in 2012 and 'Love is Simple' in 2019, maintaining a steady presence without the dramatic career arcs sometimes associated with crossover artists.
