Archive material and source history
Yiyo Sarante was born Anibel Sánchez Sarante in Los Botados, Dominican Republic, in 1964. He works in merengue, sometimes blending it with bachata and salsa. His 1999 song "Corazón de Acero" became a major hit, and other tracks like "Manos de Tijeras" and "Me Vas a Extrañar" have stayed in rotation.
In 2017, there were accusations that "Corazón de Acero" plagiarized another artist's work. Sarante denied this. His band has included keyboardist Juan Bautista de León, bassist Miguel Ángel Xiques, and drummer Carlos José Báez.
He released albums like "La Máquina del Merengue" in 2004 and "El Quinto Mandamiento" in 2013. The song "Salvame" appears on his later work.
