Yll Limani formed in 1997 with Valdete Limani on vocals, Xhevahir Suka on accordion, Edmond Deda on violin, and Altin Gjergjani on percussion. Their sound pulls from traditional Albanian folk elements, with Deda's violin lines and Suka's accordion arrangements giving the music its recognizable texture.
Their song 'Kur T'kujtohet' became a signature ballad about lost love, and they've recorded other tracks like 'Ajo që më du' and 'Më mungojnë puthjet e tua.' Valdete Limani's voice carries most of their material, while Gjergjani's percussion drives the rhythm section.
In 2004, their song 'Djali im' drew some criticism for how it portrayed a troubled youth. Their music gets played at Albanian weddings, funerals, and celebrations, both in Albania and among the diaspora.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
