Yogee New Waves formed around Kevin Barnes on vocals, Alex DeGroot on guitar and keyboards, and Dave DeGroot on drums. They released their first album, The Great Sun and the Yellow Moon, in 2004, followed by More Stars Than There Are in Heaven two years later.
In 2006, the song "How do You Feel?" appeared on More Stars Than There Are in Heaven. The band faced some scrutiny around that track in 2007, with questions about its originality. They kept working, putting out Sounds of the Future in 2010, Farewell to the Cool in 2013, and Night and Day in 2016.
