Archive material and source history
Yogi Bhajan was born Harbhajan Singh Puri in 1929 in British India. He came to the United States in 1968 and taught Kundalini yoga and Sikh philosophy through his 3HO Foundation. In the early 1970s, he put together a band with harmonium, guitar, drums, and tablas.
In 1974, the Yogi Bhajan Band released "Long Time Sunshine," a song he wrote himself. The track had a simple, melodic quality that connected with people who were already familiar with his spiritual work. It became their most recognizable piece of music.
Later in his life, Yogi Bhajan faced accusations about financial matters and his leadership style. The band recorded several other albums through the late 1970s, including "Sat Nam" and "The Aquarian Age."
