Yogurt formed in Portugal in 1997 as a quartet with brothers Miguel and Rodrigo Rodrigues, bassist Jorge Queiroz, and drummer Pedro Mendes. Their debut album 'Porquê? Porquê?' came out the following year, and its title track became an immediate favorite. The song 'Bitenka Foi Surfar' also appeared among their early work.
In 2002, Queiroz left the band and was replaced by Hugo Santos on bass. They kept recording through the 2000s and 2010s, putting out albums like 'Irresistível', 'Dose', and 'Flores e Escorpiões'. Tracks like 'emo' and 'Esqueitista Do Sertão' show the range they explored over those years.
Their lyrics often dealt with everyday questions and relationships, delivered with straightforward melodies that felt familiar. They never became a flashy international act, but in Portugal they developed a steady following who appreciated their unpretentious approach.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
