Archive material and source history
Yoko Seri was a Japanese musical ensemble that formed in Tokyo in the mid-1990s. Their sound centered around ethereal vocals and dreamy melodies, with songs like "Niji no Shoujo" and "Shiki No Uta" representing their approach. The group released several albums through the late 1990s, including "Niji no Shoujo" in 1996, "Blue Heaven" in 1997, and "Arui wa Anarchy" in 1998.
Their lineup included Yoko Kanno on lead vocals and songwriting, Aika Ohta on lead guitar, Saori Hayami on bass, and Mika Abe on drums. The band's music sometimes moved away from conventional pop structures, which created some tension with industry expectations and parts of their audience. They put out one more album, "Etheria," in 2000 before activity slowed.
