Yolanda Mayamy formed in Salvador, Brazil in 1988, led by vocalist Eliana Lemos. Their music mixed Afro-Brazilian rhythms with gospel lyrics, which drew some criticism from conservative religious groups at the time. The band's debut album 'Ó Senhor Ilumina' came out the following year in 1989, with the title track becoming their most recognizable song.
Other albums included 'Renascer' in 1992, 'Sublime' in 1996, and 'Aroma de Fé' in 2002. Over time, the lineup changed with musicians like Doney Silva on guitar, Eraldo Santana on bass, Kiko Santana on drums, and Eugênio Lima on keyboards.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
