Yonin Bayashi formed in the early 1990s with Yasuhiro Nakayama on guitar and vocals, Kiyoshiro Imawano on bass, Shinnosuke Kawaguchi on drums, and Masako Takada on keyboards and vocals. Their debut album 'Haru no Katami' came out in 1993, and its single 'Bird's & Nessy's' became a chart-topping hit. Kawaguchi left in 1998 and was replaced by Takahiro Kido.
They released seven albums including 'Sora no Uta,' 'Ao no Jidai,' and 'Kokoro no Uta.' Their songs like 'Isshoku-sokuhatsu' and 'The Carnival Is Comin'' show their range, drawing from classical, jazz, folk, and traditional Japanese music. Some critics called their approach too intellectual, but they kept working with their own sound.
In 1999 they had a legal dispute over the use of 'Bird's & Nessy's' in a commercial without permission. After the band, Nakayama and Takada both released solo albums, and Imawano worked as a producer.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
