Yonina is an Israeli folk band fronted by Yonina Gutman, a classically trained cellist. The group formed around 2017, with Gutman bringing together musicians including Itay Ottolenghi on guitar, Daniel Varsano on bass, and Benya Harari on drums. Their debut album 'Ha-Derekh' came out in 2019, followed by 'Shirim' in 2022.
Their 2018 single 'Mamtinim' sparked some debate about gender expectations while also reaching the top of Israeli charts. Another track, 'Rega Mechuvan,' appears among their notable songs. The band's sound draws from folk and classical elements, with Gutman's cello work providing a distinctive texture.
Yonina's live shows are known for their intimate feel. The group continues to perform and record, maintaining a presence in Israel's contemporary folk scene.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
