Young Dlok formed in Rio de Janeiro around 2016, with MCs Gl, Lildree, and Mc Barriguinha at the center. Their music pulls from funk carioca, hip-hop, and rap, often with lyrics that touch on life in the favelas. The track 'Jovem Visionário' came out in 2018 and caught on widely, becoming something of an anthem.
They've put out a steady stream of work since, including songs like 'Ouro de Tolo' and 'Fé na Favela'. Another one of their tracks is 'Xota Majin Boo'. The group's sound stays grounded in the rhythms and realities of their city, without much polish or pretense.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
