Young-G is an electrofunk band from Rio de Janeiro that started in the early 2010s. Their sound pulls from traditional funk carioca with electronic production, and they had a hit with 'Menina Você Me Atrai' featuring Hugo Maciel from their 2014 debut album 'Funk Carioca.'
Founders Renato 'Renatinho' Oliveira and Rodrigo 'Rodriguinho' Silva have been the core members, with other musicians like vocalists MC Rebecca and MC 2K joining them at different points. In 2019, one of their songs was accused of promoting gender violence, which they denied, saying their music aimed to celebrate women.
They've played festivals like Coachella and Glastonbury and worked with artists such as Diplo and Major Lazer. Their music has reached audiences outside Brazil, though the band's origins in Rio's favelas have sometimes drawn skepticism from parts of Brazilian society.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
