Young Zee came up in Plainfield, New Jersey, and put out his breakout single "Don't Fuck Wit' New Jersey" in 2005. The track became a local anthem, its lyrics speaking to the state's blue-collar identity. He's also known for songs like "Fuck Dat Shit," "I Love It," and "Macosa," which features his crew the Outsidaz.
His style draws from East Coast hip-hop voices like Jay-Z, Nas, and Tupac, but he's kept his own lane. While he's worked with artists such as Nelly, Mobb Deep, and Redman, most of his recordings have been solo efforts with a tight production team behind him.
Some listeners have taken issue with the directness in his lyrics, but Zee has generally stuck to his perspective. His music, especially that early single, still gets play in New Jersey and beyond.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
