Youth Alive formed in Huntington Beach, California in the early 1980s. They were a group of young musicians who started making Christian music together, with a lineup that included multiple vocalists, guitars, keyboards, and percussion.

Their debut album 'The Truth is Marching On' came out in 1984. The song 'Shout Your Glory' became particularly well-known in Christian circles, appearing on their 1985 album of the same name. They released several other albums through the late 80s and early 90s, including 'Seasons Change' and 'One Way'.

Some of their lyrics addressed social issues, which drew criticism from certain quarters. The band had various members over time, including vocalists Chris Eaton and David Strasser, drummer Steve Crawford, keyboardist Mark Heimermann, and guitarist Chris Rodriguez.
