Youth Club formed in London with Oscar Scheller on vocals and guitar, George Bass on bass, Max Rad on drums, and Charles Cave handling multiple instruments. Their first album, Reckless and Wild, came out in 2016, followed by Everything Flows in 2018. The band's sound leans into dreamy synth-pop with lyrics that often circle around identity and loneliness, drawing some comparisons to The Cure and Depeche Mode.
Scheller has described their music as a soundtrack to self-destructive tendencies, which comes through in songs like Your Only Self and Breathe. In 2017, they faced plagiarism accusations from a former collaborator, which led to a temporary pause in their activities. They returned with their second album the following year.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
