Youth for Christ formed in 1992 in Dickinson, Texas, started by brothers Stephen and David Camp. Their debut album 'Beyond the Bounds' came out in 1995, mixing rock and pop with worship elements. The band's sound was built around Stephen Camp's songwriting and vocals, with David on guitar.
Their 1997 album 'Higher' gave them their biggest song, the title track that became a Christian radio staple. Other songs like 'I Just Want To Thank You' and 'Clean Heart' followed a similar pattern of straightforward, uplifting rock. They released several more albums through the early 2000s, including 'Heart of the Matter' in 1999 and 'Follow Me' in 2002.
At their peak, Youth for Christ toured regularly and developed a following among Christian youth audiences. Their music stayed within the contemporary Christian rock format that was popular in the late 90s and early 2000s, with songs designed for group singing and clear lyrical messages.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
