Youth Lions formed in Rio de Janeiro around 2010 as a four-piece indie rock band with Rafael Martins on vocals and guitar, Thiago Matias on bass, Gabriel Rizzi on drums, and Rodrigo Sampaio on keyboards. Their first album 'Despertar' came out in 2012 and included the song 'Dia Após Dia,' which connected with listeners looking for something genuine in their music.
After some legal trouble with a record label in 2015, the band started their own independent imprint to handle their work directly. They kept putting out albums like 'Aurora' in 2016 and 'Essência' in 2018, with their sound gradually incorporating more folk and Brazilian traditional elements alongside their rock foundation.
Their songs like 'Se Esforce' and 'Ilusão' show the band's tendency toward thoughtful lyrics and melodic arrangements. They've worked with other Brazilian musicians including Chico Buarque and Marisa Monte at different points, though the core lineup has stayed the same since they began.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
