Yran Canções formed in Salvador, Bahia in the early 2010s, started by childhood friends Yran Costa and Luiz Gustavo. They worked as an independent act, which meant handling their own funding and promotion. Their debut album came out in 2014, sharing its name with the track 'Domingou' that would become their breakout hit.
'Domingou' caught on with listeners despite some critics finding its lyrics too suggestive. The song's celebration of Sunday festivities connected with people, getting regular radio play and streaming attention. The band kept making music that drew from their Bahian background, following up with albums like 'Só Pra Curtir' in 2016 and 'Bahia no Peito' in 2018.
Alongside Costa on lead vocals and rhythm guitar and Gustavo on vocals and lead guitar, the group includes Felipe Nunes on bass and Thiago Ramos on drums. They've put out several records since that first one, including 'Bomfim' in 2020 and 'Praia Particular' in 2022. Other songs like 'Peão Fazendeiro' and 'Sextou' show their continued focus on everyday Brazilian life set to catchy rhythms.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
