Archive material and source history
Yukihiro Takahashi was a Japanese musician who co-founded Yellow Magic Orchestra in 1978 with Ryuichi Sakamoto and Haruomi Hosono. The trio's electronic pop sound, which sometimes incorporated traditional Japanese elements, gained international attention. Takahashi played drums and sang in the group, which disbanded in 1983 but reunited occasionally for tours.
Alongside his work with YMO, Takahashi released solo material that ranged from synth-pop to ambient. His 1980 solo albums included "Saravah!" and "Murdered by the Music." Songs like "The Price To Pay" and "Drip Dry Eyes" show his melodic approach to electronic arrangements.
He collaborated with other artists, including Brian Eno and David Sylvian. In 1982, he and Sakamoto released a collaborative project called "The Number 1 Song in Japan." Takahashi was born in Tokyo in 1952 and initially studied architecture before turning to music.
