Yumini formed in Salvador, Bahia in the early 2000s as a trio led by vocalist Gabi Lima, with Pedro Lucas on bass and André Lima on drums. Their name comes from the Portuguese word for sunflower. They built a following with energetic live shows and a sound that mixed rock, pop, and bossa nova.
In 2005 they released their debut album "Girassol," named after the title track. That song became a radio hit in Brazil, with its bittersweet lyrics about longing and resilience. The album established them as a notable indie band.
They kept recording through the late 2000s and 2010s, putting out albums like "Pamonha" in 2007, "A Vida Inteira" in 2010, and "Talarico" in 2015. Their sound evolved from the raw energy of their early work toward something more polished and introspective.
In 2022 they marked the 15th anniversary of "Girassol" with a special live performance and a remastered edition of the album.
