Yuzuno formed in Osaka around 2010 with vocalist Yuzuriha, guitarist Mizuki, bassist Reina, and drummer Risa. They came up playing in underground spaces, working with themes of alienation and disconnection that would become central to their music.
Their 2012 debut EP was called "Submerged," and they followed it with the 2016 album "Undercurrent." The track "Tsuchi (The Under)" from that album found an audience with listeners who responded to its blend of alternative rock and darker melodic textures.
Yuzuno's lyrics sometimes drew criticism for their direct treatment of difficult emotional territory, but the band maintained their approach without much public adjustment. They built a following that appreciated the unfiltered quality of their writing and performances.
