Archive material and source history
Yvonne was a punk band that formed in New York City in 1980, with Johanna Went on vocals, Randy "Biscuit" Turner on guitar, Tim Harris on bass, and Tim Yohannan on drums. They came out of the city's underground scene and put out their debut single "11 Dead Cops" in 1981. That song became their most notorious track, with lyrics that depicted violence against police officers and led to radio bans and criticism from law enforcement.
Their discography was small, just two studio albums: the self-titled "11 Dead Cops" in 1981 and "No Way We're Goin' Back" in 1983. The debut album captured their raw, intense hardcore sound, with Went's aggressive vocals and Turner's blistering guitar work driving songs like "Broken Parts" and "Dirt."
They were unapologetic about the song, saying it reflected the frustrations of marginalized youth in the city at the time.
