Yzalú formed in Rio de Janeiro in the early 1990s. Their debut album 'Raízes' came out in 1993, featuring the song 'Jesus Chorou' which gained them national attention. They followed with albums like 'Nada Passa ao Tempo' in 1995 and 'Pedra Preta' in 1997.
Their music drew from Brazilian traditions including samba and forró, blended with contemporary sounds. This approach sometimes sparked debate within evangelical circles about mixing religious themes with secular music.
Later albums included 'Onde o Sol Nasce' in 2001 and 'Flor do Deserto' in 2008. The band's lineup featured Ivanilton de Souza on vocals and guitar, Paulo Faria on keyboards, Nando Cunha on bass, Juninho Ferreira on drums, and Xan Martins on guitar.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
