Z Alterado formed in 2000 as a Brazilian band with four members: Sebastião Ferreira (Tião) on lead vocals and guitar, Alexandre "Xandão" Ribeiro on bass, and two musicians named Marcos "Marcão" Miranda on drums and Marcos "Marcão" Ferreira on guitar. Their song "Só o Básico" became their most recognizable track, expressing a desire for simpler, more authentic living.
Their early albums like their self-titled 2000 debut and 2003's "O Melhor do Mundo" featured socially conscious lyrics that addressed issues like poverty and inequality. The band's music sometimes drew criticism from authorities for its political content, but they continued performing and recording through the 2000s.
In 2006 they released "Boa Sorte," which incorporated some jazz and funk elements alongside their rock foundation. Three years later they put out a live album recorded in São Paulo. While their catalog isn't extensive, songs like "Só o Básico" have remained in circulation among Brazilian listeners who appreciate their straightforward approach to music with a message.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
