Z-Boys came up in the early 2000s as a hip-hop group. Their track 'Holla Holla' broke through and got some attention, along with 'No Limit.' The group included rapper J-Kwon and DJ Skee, who handled production. They put out four albums: 'Z-Boys,' 'Thug Muzik,' 'The Future,' and 'My Melody.'
J-Kwon left the group in 2006, around when some internal tensions surfaced. There was also a legal issue in 2005 over sample clearance that ended in a settlement. After that, the remaining members kept working for a while.
Their sound had a straightforward, beat-driven quality that worked on tracks like 'Holla Holla.' They collaborated with a few other artists, including Snoop Dogg and Lil Jon, which helped keep their name in rotation during that period.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
