Zzzz formed in 1984 around vocalist and lyricist Manuel Torregrosa, with drummer Antonio Arias and bassist José Manuel García. The band's name is pronounced "zee-zee-zee." Their music often dealt with themes of loss and longing, channeled through sparse instrumentation and Torregrosa's haunted delivery.
One of their best-known songs is "Por Si Algún Día Muero," which became something of an anthem for the band. It appeared on their 1987 album of the same name. They released several other records, including "La Línea Roja" in 1989 and "Tercer Mundo" in 1992.
Zzzz maintained the same three-person lineup throughout their existence. Their somber aesthetic and Torregrosa's uncompromising lyrics drew critical attention but also kept them somewhat outside the mainstream. They stopped releasing new music after the mid-1990s.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
