Zabeba was a Brazilian pop-rock band from Salvador, Bahia that formed in the late 1990s. They were led by singer Daniela Mercury, with Rafa Menezes on drums, Chico Costa on bass, Gileno on guitar, and Magary Lord on keyboards. Their debut album in 2000 included the track 'Mulher Solteira,' which became one of their most recognizable songs.
Their music mixed traditional Brazilian rhythms like samba and axé with pop elements. Over the next few years they released albums including 'Sol da Liberdade' in 2002 and 'O Canto da Cidade' in 2004. Other songs in their catalog include 'Qual da Night?', 'Se Joga Na Pista,' and 'Vou Surfar.'
Daniela Mercury's advocacy for LGBTQ+ rights and political activism sometimes drew attention alongside the band's music. They continued recording into the 2010s with albums like 'Canibália' in 2010 and a 2019 release marking twenty years.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
