Zábó Jimmy was born Gyula Zámbó in 1958 and grew up in Kispest, a suburb of Budapest. He started singing at local gatherings and weddings, drawing from the traditional music around him. In 1986, his debut album 'Dalolj Gitár' gave him his first major hit with the title track, a ballad about unrequited love.
His music often dealt with love and personal struggle, with songs like 'Krisztina' and 'Szeretlek Nagyon' becoming staples for his audience. He worked with a band that included guitarist Csongrádi László, bassist Molnár Zsolt, and drummer Kovács Arnold.
Jimmy faced criticism for some of his lyrics and had public struggles with addiction. His brother Joe was murdered in 2001, a loss that affected him deeply. Through various personal difficulties, he kept recording through the 1990s with albums like 'Tűz van bennem' and 'Ébredéstől ébredésig'.
He died in 2001 at age 43. His songs remain familiar in Hungary, particularly among listeners who connected with their direct emotional quality.
