Zabumba de Cana formed in Caruaru, Pernambuco in 2006, with Felipe Berroca as lead singer. Their name references the zabumba drum common in Northeastern Brazilian folk music. They released their first album that same year.
In 2011, the band put out "Xote Machucador," a song that gained attention for its lyrics about social issues. The track's rhythm and melody made it popular, though some found its content provocative. Zabumba de Cana followed it with albums in 2014 and 2018.
The group's lineup includes Berroca on vocals, Raphaela Meireles on bass, Douglas Pernambucano on drums, Gleison Ramos on guitar, and Felipe Pacheco on percussion. Their music draws from traditional Northeastern rhythms alongside rock and punk elements.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
