Zabumbossa formed in 2010 around percussionist Marcos Bezerra and vocalist Ceci Monteiro, taking their name from the traditional Afro-Brazilian zabumba drum. They're based in Salvador, Bahia, and their music pulls from that region's rhythmic traditions. Their debut album 'O Som de Zabumbossa' came out in 2017, followed by 'À Procura' in 2020 and 'Pra Mim' in 2022.
Their song 'Brasil Cachaça' became particularly well-known, capturing their blend of Brazilian rhythms with contemporary pop elements.
While they've toured internationally in Europe and the Americas, their core remains the partnership between Bezerra's percussion and Monteiro's vocals, often expanded with additional musicians for live performances. Their recordings show a steady evolution while staying connected to those Afro-Brazilian foundations.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
