Zacarías Ferreira was born in 1981 in San Pedro de Macorís, Dominican Republic. He started singing in church choirs as a child and formed his own band as a teenager. His debut album 'El Triste' came out in 2001, featuring the kind of heartfelt love songs that would become his calling card.
His music found a wide audience with songs like 'Asesina,' 'El Intruso,' and 'Ya No Te Buscare.' These tracks, along with albums like 'Me Arrepiento' (2004) and 'Quiéreme Todavía' (2006), established him as a prominent voice in bachata. The lyrics often dealt with love and heartbreak, delivered with a direct emotional intensity that resonated with listeners.
In 2007, Ferreira was arrested on drug trafficking charges, though they were later dropped. The incident affected his public standing for a time. Some of his song lyrics, particularly those in 'Asesina,' drew criticism from groups who felt they promoted violence against women. He continued to release music, including the albums 'El Amor' in 2012 and 'Mi Historia' in 2015.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
