Zaida Ward formed in Bogotá, Colombia in 2001 with Joanna Villamizar on lead vocals, Camilo Giraldo on vocals and guitar, and Carlos Valencia on bass. Their debut album 'Tu y Yo' came out the following year, with the title track becoming their most recognizable song.
In 2005, the band faced plagiarism allegations regarding their song 'Miénteme,' though they denied any wrongdoing. They continued releasing albums like 'En el Cielo de tu Boca' in 2006 and 'Influencias' in 2009, with their material shifting toward more socially conscious themes over time.
Villamizar left in 2010 to pursue solo work, and the band regrouped with new vocalist María Isabel Saavedra. They released 'Despertar' in 2012, followed by 'Raíces' in 2015 and 'Resiliente' in 2019.
