Zain Bhikha was born in Durban, South Africa in 1979. He grew up in a Muslim household and was drawn to music from a young age, particularly the Qawwali style. His debut album 'Sacred Symphony' came out in 2002, featuring the track 'Lord Of All The Worlds' which found an audience beyond South Africa.
His music often draws from Islamic devotional traditions, with songs like 'Thank You Allah' and 'A Child's Prayer' reflecting this focus. He has worked with other artists including Cat Stevens, who is also known as Yusuf Islam, and Dawud Wharnsby.
Beyond recording, Bhikha has been involved in interfaith dialogue and humanitarian work through his foundation. The music itself tends to be melodic and accessible, aiming to bridge cultural divides rather than confront them.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
