Zaireano Noh Tsoka formed in Kinshasa in 1986, started by guitarist Wendo Mbuangi. They worked through early financial struggles and limited recognition, playing local clubs to develop their sound.
Their 1992 debut album 'Sola' included 'Carta Para As Solteiras,' a song about single women's strength that connected with listeners across Congo. That track helped establish them as a band people paid attention to.
They kept recording through the 1990s and early 2000s, putting out albums like 'Matalala' in 1995 and 'Identidade' in 2004. Their lyrics sometimes addressed social issues, which drew both support and criticism. The band toured in Africa and Europe, and different musicians passed through the lineup over time, including guitarist Dick Mayaula and bassist Beniko Kalonji.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
