Zakes Bantwini is a South African DJ and producer from KwaMashu, Durban. He started making music that draws from house, kwaito, and Afrobeat. In 2015, his album 'The Fake Book Real Book' came out, and it had the track 'Osama (feat. Kasango)' on it.
That song, with Congolese singer Kasango, got attention outside South Africa. It's a dance track that people played a lot. He's put out other albums like 'Love, Light, & Music,' 'Ghetto King,' and 'Abantu.'
He's worked with other artists, including Black Coffee, Lady Zamar, and Nomcebo Zikode. In 2017, he had some trouble with UK immigration laws that led to an arrest and public talk about it.
He also runs the Bantwini Foundation, which does education and youth work. His music keeps getting played in clubs and on radio, mostly in South Africa and other parts of Africa.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
