Zakuro Motoki formed in Osaka in 2010, built around vocalist Elaina with guitarist Kento and bassist Daiki. They put out three albums between 2014 and 2020, starting with 'Gloria in excelsis dea' and ending with 'Requiem.' Their songs like 'Active Pain' and 'The End Of The World' mix heavy guitars with orchestral arrangements, drawing from classical composers.
Early on, some listeners questioned their approach to symphonic metal, but they kept working. They recorded with the Prague Philharmonic Orchestra and the Choir of St. Peter's Basilica. The music stays grounded in that trio lineup, with Elaina's soprano voice carrying over Kento's guitar work and Daiki's bass lines.
Their albums show a shift from the broader scope of 'Gloria in excelsis dea' to the more focused sound of 'Requiem.' Tracks such as 'Birth Of a New Witch' and 'Rokkenjima Bojou' reflect that blend of metal and classical elements without overstating it. They haven't released anything since 2020.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
