Zalika

Zalika formed in Rio de Janeiro around 1980, with João Barone, Maurício Gaetani, and Leo Jaime coming together to play music. They started out playing small clubs, developing a sound that mixed Brazilian rhythms with pop and rock. Their debut album came out in 1987, featuring the song 'A Voz,' which helped bring them wider attention in Brazil.

That first album established a pattern of thoughtful songwriting that continued through later releases like 'Acabou Chorare' in 1989 and 'Nação' in 1993. Songs like 'Antes de Partir' and 'Imenso Silêncio' show their preference for melodic, introspective material rather than flashy production. The band's lineup remained stable with Barone on vocals and percussion, Gaetani on guitar, and Jaime on bass.

In the early 1990s, Zalika faced some legal issues with a former member that briefly interrupted their work. They kept recording and playing shows afterward, putting out a compilation called 'O Melhor de Zalika' in 2004. Their music has stayed in circulation through tracks like 'Armadilha' and 'Mosaico,' which continue to find listeners who appreciate their particular blend of Brazilian pop.
