Zamba Ben formed in Salvador, Brazil in the early 1990s around vocalist and songwriter Fernanda Keulla. Their music draws from Afro-Brazilian rhythms and psychedelic influences, with songs like "Discreto" and "Flores na Favela" showing their atmospheric approach. The band released albums including "Submarino" in 1996, "Alma Elétrica" in 1998, and "Discreto" in 2002.
Alongside Keulla, core members included guitarist Paulo Daflon and drummer João Meirelles. Their 2002 album "Discreto" features the studio version "Discreto (Ensaio estúdio Salamandra)" and other tracks like "Quanto Vale?" and "Vou Morar Na Lua." They put out another album, "Enquanto a Vela Queima," in 2009.
In 2002, Zamba Ben faced a legal dispute with a record label over royalties. They continued performing occasionally in Brazil, where their music maintained a following for its introspective quality and layered sound.
