Zambauê formed in Salvador, Bahia in the late 1970s. Their debut album 'Luzia' came out in 1984, featuring the song 'Amor de Rapariga' which became a hit. The band's sound mixed Afro-Brazilian rhythms with reggae and rock.
Geraldo Azevedo handled vocals and guitar, with Roberto Barreto on bass and Léo Cavalcanti on drums. They released several albums through the years, including 'Energia' in 1987 and 'Brasil Nordeste' in 1992. Another notable track was 'Mal Acostumado'.
In the early 1990s, Zambauê got tangled in a legal dispute over the rights to 'Amor de Rapariga'. They kept recording, putting out 'Acústico' in 1998 and 'De Bem com a Vida' in 2005. Their music has appeared in films and television shows more recently.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
