Zamy formed in Madrid in the early 2000s with three members: María Zamarro on vocals, Rubén Martín on guitar and keyboards, and Javier Pedraz on bass. Their first album came out in 2006, titled 'No Te Das Cuenta' after its lead single. That song, a ballad about unrequited love, got them some early attention.
They put out a few more albums over the next decade, including 'La Distancia' in 2008, 'El Único Camino' in 2010, and 'La Vida' in 2015. Their sound mixed pop and rock with some traditional Spanish elements, particularly flamenco touches in the guitar work. In 2019 they released 'Júpiter,' which drew some criticism for its explicit lyrics.
Around 2012, the band paused activities when María Zamarro dealt with depression. They've also been involved with social causes like mental health awareness and LGBTQ+ rights advocacy.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
