Zana formed in the late 1990s, releasing their self-titled debut album in 1999. The band's lineup included Ines Lesić on vocals, Marijana Cvetković on accordion, Aleksandar Atanasijević on guitar, Danijel Ljubojević on bass, and Ljubomir Aleksić on drums. Their sound mixed traditional Balkan elements with contemporary arrangements, creating something that felt both familiar and new.
Their 2001 album '13 Je Moj Srećan Broj' became their breakthrough, with the title track gaining particular attention. Other songs from that period like 'Budi fer' and 'Crvene lale' showed their range, moving between upbeat numbers and more reflective pieces. They followed with 'Vodopad' in 2003 and 'Krajem Jeseni' in 2007, the latter taking a more introspective turn.
Ines Lesić's songwriting came to the forefront on 2011's 'Sama,' while 2013's 'Zaborav' marked their 15th anniversary. Throughout their recordings, tracks like 'A ti si' and 'Camac na vodi' demonstrated their ability to craft memorable melodies within their distinctive Balkan-influenced sound.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
