Zandie Khumalo grew up in Soweto, Johannesburg, with music in the family. Her father Mgabhi was an opera singer, and her mother Grace sang gospel. She released her debut album 'As'phelilanga' in 2012, which established her as a rising presence in South African music. She followed it with 'Inkanyezi' in 2015 and 'Izinganekwane' in 2019.
Her song 'Akwanele,' featuring Lindani, came out in 2013 and became known for its themes of women's empowerment. In 2014, she had a public feud with fellow musician Kelly Khumalo, which led to a break from music for a time.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
