Zanzibar formed in Fortaleza, Ceará in 1996, with Ednardo Melo on vocals and guitar, Rodolfo Luis on bass, Fabrício Souza on accordion, and Felipe Cazaux on drums. Their debut album came out in 2000, and the single "Forró Love" became a hit in Brazil. The song's mix of forró rhythms and pop melody gave them a recognizable sound.
They followed up with albums like "Nação Forrozeira" in 2003 and "Festa do Amor" in 2005. Other tracks like "Apague Essa Luz" and "Minha Vida É Você" kept their style consistent. In 2005, they faced plagiarism accusations over a song on their second album, which led to a legal dispute.
After that, they kept releasing music, including live albums and studio work like "Ritmo e Amor" in 2009 and "Forró Brasileiro" in 2012. Their music stayed popular at festivals and parties in Brazil's northeast, where forró has deep roots.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
