Zap Zoo formed in 1998 around guitarist Nick Holder and drummer Richard Jones in Cape Town.
They followed with albums like 'Let's Get Lost' in 2005 and 'Songs of the Village' in 2007, each exploring different facets of South African music through an electronic lens. The single 'Back For More' became their most recognizable track internationally, though songs like 'Carrefour' and 'Everything is easy' show the range of their approach.
Over time, the lineup included vocalist Mandla Mlangeni and dancer Lulama Yila. They worked occasionally with other artists, including the choir Ladysmith Black Mambazo and producer Makhult. Their recordings have a live, percussive energy that feels rooted in Cape Town's dance scenes, even when layered with electronic production.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
