Zarama formed in 1977 in Arrasate, a town in the Basque Country. The band's core members were Juan Mari Beltran, Pedro Muguruza, and Iñaki Lazkano.
Their song 'Bidea Eratzen' became particularly well-known, expressing themes that resonated with many young Basque listeners. Other tracks like 'Edan Ase Arte' and 'Gasteizko Gaua' showed their range, from driving rock to more reflective moments. Their lyrics sometimes touched on social and political subjects, which drew both strong support and criticism at the time.
Zarama released several albums through the 1980s, including 'Han' and 'Haizea Garrasi'. They were part of a wave of Basque-language rock that gave a contemporary sound to the region's cultural expression. The band stopped performing in 2003.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
