Zarathustra came out of the heavy metal underground in the early 2000s with a lineup that included vocalist and guitarist Erik Knutson, bassist Jonas Karlsson, and drummer Magnus Eriksson. Their music was built around themes from Nietzsche and ideas about human transcendence, which showed up in songs like 'Become Eternal' and 'Master Morality.'
They put out a few albums, including 'Apotheosis' in 2006 and 'Become Eternal' in 2009. The title track from that second record became something of an anthem for them, with its refrain about moving beyond mortality. Their live shows had a reputation for being intense, and their lyrics sometimes drew criticism for how they handled Nietzsche's concepts.
After a while, the band became less active. The members moved on to other projects, and Zarathustra's output slowed down. What's left are those albums and songs like 'Cosmic Black' and 'Echoes In Eternity' that still turn up in metal circles.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
