Zavod formed in Serbia in 1989 around multi-instrumentalist Vladimir "Vlada" Golovin and percussionist Nebojša "Boban" Janković. Their music pulls from industrial, ambient, and noise, with a particular interest in Eastern European avant-garde and the harsher edges of bands like Throbbing Gristle.
Their 1993 album 'Fable' was an early marker of their sound, which often uses eerie atmospheres and cryptic lyrics. Other tracks like 'Da Ili Njet' and 'Panzer' reflect their continued work in experimental electronics.
Zavod's live shows are known for their intensity, and their recordings, including later albums like 'Interrogation Machine' and a 2012 collaboration with Christophe Chavanon, maintain a confrontational, uncompromising approach. They've built a following among listeners drawn to darker, boundary-pushing music.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
