Zé Augusto and Flávio were a Brazilian bossa nova duo who began working together in the mid-1960s. Zé Augusto, born José Augusto Lages de Mello in 1945, had been playing in Rio de Janeiro clubs as a teenager. He met guitarist Flávio Henrique dos Santos from Niterói, and their shared interest in music led to a partnership. Their debut album came out in 1969, featuring the song 'O Brasil Tá Cheio de Mulher,' which became well-known.
They released several albums in the early 1970s, including 'Não É Samba' in 1970 and 'Conversando' in 1972. Their music worked within bossa nova while sometimes incorporating other elements. Songs like 'Luz da Minha Vida' and 'A Fila Andou' are part of their catalog.
As a duo, Zé Augusto handled vocals and guitar while Flávio played guitar, and both contributed to songwriting. Their work from that period remains part of the Brazilian music landscape, with tracks like 'O Brasil Tá Cheio de Mulher' still getting played.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
