He performed with a group called Trio Nordestino, which included Zé do Norte on accordion and João do Vale on zabumba. Other songs from his catalog include 'Mulher Rendilheira' and 'Cantigas do Nordeste'.
Barbosa was known for his romantic serenades and was active for several decades. He died in 1997.
