A late-1990s Brazilian band that mixed rock with samba and folk, keeping things slightly off-center.
For their sound, try 'Numa Noite de Verão.' For their more cryptic side, 'Eu Te Amo Você' is the one.
They carved out a space where rock could breathe with Brazilian rhythms, never smoothing out the rough edges. 'Numa Noite de Verão' has that breezy feel, but even their most recognizable track, 'Eu Te Amo Você,' kept its lyrics ambiguous. They preferred that unresolved quality over pop clarity.
Zé Caetano formed in Brazil in the late 1990s around vocalist Zé and guitarist Caetano. They put out their first album, 'Semente do Silêncio,' in 1998, followed by others like 'O Último Tango' in 2002. The band generally kept a low profile, with bassist Beto and drummer Marcos rounding out the lineup.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
